2017 Reading Caravan & Sustainability @ Bituen

2017 proved as another progressive year for the Bituen group as we opened the year with Reading Caravan book distribution at San Isidro, Makati City in January 2 with Karinderia ni Mang Urot once again benefiting about a hundred young learners. Eco Volunteers Needed

On the heels of the success of the initial Cool Green School project, Bituen is inviting volunteers to become trainers for various schools in Philippine cities. Under the Sustainability program, wastes are used in urban gardening and possible livelihood craft projects with the double purpose to clean and green our urban especially in marginalized areas. The training is for free but volunteers will shoulder their tool kit worth P700 and waste materials: 2 medium to large cans 1 large shampoo or similar plastic bottle waste paper and packaging boards. The workshop-training is slated to begin February 25, 2017 and every last Saturday of each month thereon which venue shall be near or around Quezon City Memorial Circle area.  Participants are required to complete all activities during the training to be able to receive a certification, and inclusion in the pool of volunteers. Sustainability & 3Rs: Engaging Communities

Engaging members of the community to actively participate in the process of improving the environment through the use of readily available materials like garbage for planting, container gardening, and 3Rs became the focus of Bituen in recent months.  Students from Obando, Bulacan aiming to reduce waste and make the river system more liveable. DepEd teachers experience first-hand the joys of turning waste into something useful, to be passed on to their learners.  Members of NGO recycle scrap fabric. Waste papers, boards, cans, and plastic... ...turned into a new life... Bituen partners with NGOs, various government agencies, schools, and business establishments to continuously educate and inspire citizens to become not only vigilant but also active in their duties for their surroundings. Free Forum & Workshop for ALS

On April 27, 2015, Bituen will conduct Sustainability & 3Rs forum and workshop in cooperation with Environmental Management Bureau   this time with  DepEd's Alternative Learning System coordinators and teachers as participants. A strategic move to maximize the information and skills campaign, the workshop expects to multiply the effect as the teachers and coordinators are involved in the informal education of marginalized and out-school-youths and adults who caanot afford formal education due to poverty. To help raise funds for the inclusion of tool kit for the teacher-participants, Bituen and partners are offering sale of Gift Certificates which buyers or their recipients may use in shopping. The proceeds will fund the pictured kit above. The workshop is only first in a series to be conducted with DepEd's ALS teachers. More are to follow. Please purchase one and spread!

Urban Guerrilla Gardening Workshop

In Bituen 's continues commitment to improve the condition of Filipinos, it is launching its custom workshop Urban Guerrilla Gardening (Gardening from wastes) under its Sustainable Living & 3Rs program for private groups and companies. The workshop shows that even without open space and less budget, individuals and homes can maintain their own gardens using up to 70% of household wastes. The many advantages of maintaining even a pot of plant are as follows: Converts carbon dioxide to oxygen Cleans air to help prevent colds, coughs, asthma, and other respiratory illness Reduces work & personal stress Stimulates learning   Reduces heat and humidity Helps reduce household waste by turning bio-waste into fertilizer Improves overall quality of life .
