Urban Guerrilla Gardening Workshop

In Bituen's continues commitment to improve the condition of Filipinos, it is launching its custom workshop Urban Guerrilla Gardening (Gardening from wastes) under its Sustainable Living & 3Rs program for private groups and companies. The workshop shows that even without open space and less budget, individuals and homes can maintain their own gardens using up to 70% of household wastes.

The many advantages of maintaining even a pot of plant are as follows:
  1. Converts carbon dioxide to oxygen
  2. Cleans air to help prevent colds, coughs, asthma, and other respiratory illness
  3. Reduces work & personal stress
  4. Stimulates learning 
  5. Reduces heat and humidity
  6. Helps reduce household waste by turning bio-waste into fertilizer
  7. Improves overall quality of life.

Going Nationwide

All photos taken during Reading Caravan events. We are happy to announce that we are embarking on a nationwide book distribution through Reading Caravan. This is quite ambitious but will need all the support you could give, especially colorful children's' books. The children beneficiaries during RC opened their books immediately, with thirst for knowledge seen in their faces. Some of them were known to have reading problems as all public schools conduct a pre-post school year reading assessment. But with the eagerness in their eyes, the problem is not them but access. They do not even know how to open and flip the book pages properly. Philippine Literacy Right Now The situation right now in Philippine public schools is that all books are printed of black ink on newsprint pages. Sustainable Living & 3Rs Forum & Workshop

More than 500 students from the University of Northern Philippines and DepEd's Alternative Learning System joined the free Sustainable Living & 3Rs Forum & Workshop last December 6 held at the UNP Auditorium. DepEd's ALS learners led by Mr Anselmo Aludino, teachers Julia Formoso, Bonifacio Balderosa, Silver Rabang, Joseph Obrero, Lawrence Agtutubo, Janet Bersamina, UNP's Mariquit Obrero (middle, in white ), Margaret Cruz (in black) and Cris Valmoja (in yellow).
