Metro Manila teachers and students from DepEd were presented with current sustainability trends and Metro Manila environment problems and opportunities in the Cool Green School ( Gulayan sa Paaralan , National Greening Program ) forum and workshop. The forum-workshop focused on current environment issues in Metro Manila: massive daily burning and dumping of wastes in waterways, pollution of land, air and water, threath in health and quality of life, and what is left for the "laylayan" members of the Philippine society : wastes, lacking or limited space, lack of access to resources, and lack of motivation and incentives. While teachers and students presneted issues and challenges in greening their environment, participants were shown how to make their own compost and organic soil from biodegradable wastes like scrap paper and packaging boards, kitchen refuse, and garden wastes, as well as utilize waste plastic and can containers as pots for planting seeds, seedlings, an...

Sustainability & 3Rs: Engaging Communities

Engaging members of the community to actively participate in the process of improving the environment through the use of readily available materials like garbage for planting, container gardening, and 3Rs became the focus of Bituen in recent months.  Students from Obando, Bulacan aiming to reduce waste and make the river system more liveable. DepEd teachers experience first-hand the joys of turning waste into something useful, to be passed on to their learners.  Members of NGO recycle scrap fabric. Waste papers, boards, cans, and plastic... ...turned into a new life... Sustainability & 3Rs Eco Camp at Vigan

After the successful launch of Sustainability & 3Rs Forum & Workshop in December 2013, it goes back to University of Northern Philippines , one of Bituen's original partners, for its first 3-day Eco Camp with DepEd teachers on October 28-30, 2015. Targeted participants include secondary school teachers in TLE , Scout Coordinators, Arts, and Home Economics, although all teachers interested in improving our  environment through their curriculum are invited. Free Forum & Workshop for ALS

On April 27, 2015, Bituen will conduct Sustainability & 3Rs forum and workshop in cooperation with Environmental Management Bureau   this time with  DepEd's Alternative Learning System coordinators and teachers as participants. A strategic move to maximize the information and skills campaign, the workshop expects to multiply the effect as the teachers and coordinators are involved in the informal education of marginalized and out-school-youths and adults who caanot afford formal education due to poverty. To help raise funds for the inclusion of tool kit for the teacher-participants, Bituen and partners are offering sale of Gift Certificates which buyers or their recipients may use in shopping. The proceeds will fund the pictured kit above. The workshop is only first in a series to be conducted with DepEd's ALS teachers. More are to follow. Please purchase one and spread!

Second Priority Program of Bituen Organization is Sustainability and 3Rs a forum on what individuals & ordinary folks can do.  Since its launch in December 2013, the following forums and workshops have been conducted throughout the Philippines: 1.
